Individual Therapy
In our daily lives it can be hard to find and keep time for ourselves to explore our experiences. It can be even harder to discuss these experiences with others without fear of being judged or misunderstood. Individual therapy allows us to dedicate time to ourselves in a space that is focussed on finding acceptance and empathy for ourselves.
All therapists practice slightly differently and finding a therapist that feels right for you can be a long process. Below are some examples of things I think are important to know when looking for someone to work with but if you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

I predominantly work from a foundation of Person-Centred philosophy, however like all practitioners I borrow tools and techniques from other modalities such as CBT, Mindfulness, and Psychodynamic /Psychoanalysis. I am open to working with whatever clients want to bring, and if there is a specific thing that works for you, let's talk about it!

I have a clinical speciality in perinatal therapy, meaning supporting those who are having or have had babies. I work with any issue within that period such as low mood/mood disorders, anxiety and intrusive thoughts, relationship/communication issues, identity/personality issues, infertility/trying to conceive journeys, loss, and any other experiences related to having children. I work with any person, of any gender who feels affected by these issues whether they are a parent or not.
While this is my area of professional interest, I would be glad to hear from anybody who feels we would work well together, regardless of subject.

The great benefit about private counselling is we can work in an open-ended way. Although we are always working towards a day where you no longer feel like you need to be in therapy, how long it takes to reach that point is different for every client. I offer review points throughout the process to check in and discuss where we feel we are.

I offer weekly and fortnightly sessions. Many clients find that weekly, at least initially works best for getting started but may choose to reduce sessions to fortnightly when working longer term. Some clients may also prefer to work fortnightly but for 90 minutes rather than 50 minutes.
I do offer monthly sessions; however, these are designed to work as check-ins and are always 90 minutes.

Attending therapy at the same time every week can help us to make a commitment to ourselves, that we are prioritising a space for ourselves. As someone who has worked many a shift job, I try to be as flexible as possible for those whose schedules are more unpredictable and cannot commitment to a set weekly appointment.
